Adaptive Reuse: Store to Library

O’Donnell/Snider Construction (OSC), in partnership with PGAL, repurposed a former single-story grocery store into a modern library and community center. This transformation involved significant structural upgrades, beginning with new footings and a slab-on-grade, and extended to a comprehensive structural steel package. The building’s front façade was reconstructed using structural steel, metal framing, stone, metal panels, and extensive glazing to create a contemporary and inviting entrance. The interior was outfitted with entirely new MEPFT systems to support the building’s updated functions. A tiered auditorium, adds a dynamic space for community events and presentations. While the current fire protection system was retained, it underwent modifications to align with the new layout and uses. The site work phase involved the demolition of existing external elements, installation of new paving and utilities, and updated landscaping to enhance the curb appeal and usability of the grounds. Of special note is the decorative paving at the front of the building, which include colored finishes and scoring details
