This medical office building for Houston Methodist was certainly an exciting project.

The space consists of doctors’ offices, two X-ray rooms, and multiple patient examination rooms.

This project is unique because of its location on the second floor of a multi-tenant space. With a furniture store below and both a bank and a restaurant adjacent to our area of construction, this project has been a fantastic example of the success that comes from excellent communication. Collaboration was crucial, especially with the furniture store below. This business had just opened and the owner was fearful that their merchandise would be damaged while we worked above them. We gave them confidence that this would not be the case by developing a plan for dust mitigation in their space and by allowing their own general contractor to monitor the work that we performed. We worked only at night, in three phases, in order to allow our neighbors to continue their operations uninterrupted during the day. While we ran under-slab plumbing in our space, we set up a 15’ by 30’ containment area. Our dust mitigation plan continued further to putting down Masonite in the adjacent spaces and wrapping their fixtures in plastic each night while we worked. Each morning, we would have all of our protective converings removed from the adjacent spaces so they could open as usual. While we worked to set up dust protection in the bank, their security team supervised as requested. Because of our communication with these adjacent tenants, we were able to keep to our construction schedule without any incidents.
